This site is dedicated to Peter Lang’s 205 studio project. The studio consists of 19 undergraduate Environmental Design students from Texas A&M University. This is not your average architectural model project. It entails extensive research, environmental analysis, and unconventional architecture.
Our design studio was initially divided into groups of 3. We then started researching the natural history of the Brazos Valley, surrounding areas, and different museums. We took a field trip to the Natural History Museum in Bryan, TX in order to further our research. During our trip, we discovered that there was a construction site for a new Target right next door. We found this ironic considering they had destroyed nature trails right next to a natural history museum. After presenting our collections of information as PowerPoints, the groups of 3 combined into groups of 6 to expand and further our research. We then decided that investigating Target and its construction site would be a beneficial and a worthwhile project. Our research in this area has ranged from site visits, to geology analysis, and visits to the City of Bryan.
Our research thus far reevaluates our original theory that the construction of a new Target was destroying the environment and consequently our very own natural history in the process.
Currently, we are taking our research to produce a final project which consists of three phases: mapping the area, designing a retention pond, and communications. The mapping portion is to visually display the information we have obtained. The retention pond design phase was instated in order to recreate the nature trails that were destroyed. The communications phase is to inform members of the community and surrounding areas about the research and the work we have done. Ultimately, our studio hopes that our project provides ample information to educate you on the issue that we have spent developing over the semester.
Our class has kept a blog with the latest information to keep the community informed. Click the categories to the right to learn more about specific details of our project. There are links at the top to pages with site documentation and related research to enhance your understanding of the project. Thanks for visiting!
